Maggie Yarak

Principal Solicitor 

Qualifications: LLB BS (Juris.)

Maggie is an experienced commercial lawyer with over 14 years’ experience in both private and corporate sectors. She purchased the firm in May 2017 from Michelina Guarna.

Maggie worked as General Counsel for the Vorbach Group of Companies for nearly 4 years. She advised the Group in relation to commercial matters including the negotiation and drafting of documents, national franchising, media and energy matters.

Maggie has also worked in-house at Bendigo Bank advising on commercial banking matters. 


Recently, Maggie held a commercial role as a Contracts and Commercial Manager for Cobham Aviation Services negotiating and managing the FIFO contracts with various international and national gas, oil and commodities organisations.


Returning to private practice in 2015 at Guarna Legal, Maggie enjoys applying her experience and skills to a wide range of legal matters including: commercial, estates, insolvency, debt recovery, intellectual property, commercial litigation and criminal law. 

Since 2005 Maggie has held the role of lecturer and facilitator in the Commercial Law unit of the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at The University of Adelaide. Maggie remains dedicated to mentoring young professionals. 

Maggie is a mum to two young boys with high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder and is an avid supporter of the Adelaide Crows. 

Maggie is a member of the Law Society of South Australia, Women Lawyers’ Association of South Australia and holds a position on the Modbury Special School Governing Council.




Michelina Guarna


Qualifications : LLB

Michelina has over 40 years of experience having worked in both private practice and in government. Michelina was admitted to the Supreme Court of South Australia in 1979 having completed her Bachelor of Laws at Adelaide University and then completed a year of Articles. Michelina practised in Adelaide before moving to Hong Kong and ultimately accepting a position with the Monetary Authority of Hong Kong. She soon rose to the position of Deputy General Counsel of the Monetary Authority, in which role she provided advice on the regulation of the banking and insurance sector and the development of the financial markets in Hong Kong.


After ten exciting years in Hong Kong, Michelina spent some time back in Adelaide as a consultant with a large legal firm before taking the family to the United Kingdom where a major change of lifestyle saw her setting up and successfully running a retail business in the village where the family lived.


The family returned to Adelaide and Michelina established Guarna Legal in 2012. She provides advice in the areas of family law, wills and estates and in general commercial law and litigation. 



In May 2017 Michelina sold the firm to Maggie Yarak and remains as a consultant to the firm.

Michelina understands what it is to be a business proprietor and a family person and firmly believes that without empathy there is less chance of success. 

Michelina is a member of the Law Society of South Australia and the Women Lawyers’ Association of South Australia.

Lucy Dillon

Law Clerk


Following completion of the International Baccelaureate in 2012, Lucy spent a year in the United Kingdom assisting at a Grammar School in Cranbrook, Kent. Lucy is currently undertaking her fourth year in a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Psychological Science at the University of Adelaide.

Lucy works part time as Law Clerk at Guarna Legal. Lucy has aspirations of working in Commercial and/or Family Law. 






Matthew Rowley

Administrative Assistant

Matt is currently studying a double degree of Economics and Finance at The University of Adelaide and hopes to incorporate Law into his studies later this year. He currently plays for the university’s soccer team in State League 2.


Matt works part time as an Administration Assistant.







Bev Severin

Accounts Manager

Bev is a highly qualified bookkeeper and registered BAS agent and works for Guarna Legal on a part time basis doing bookkeeping for the practice, managing the accounts and trust accounting.





Carla Harker

Administrative Assistant

After completing year 12 in 2011, Carla spent three months travelling overseas and working. She then went on to complete a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Adelaide where she had the opportunity to live and study in Japan during her final year of university.


Carla works part time as an Administrative Assistant at Guarna Legal. As well as this, she also splits her time between postgraduate studies and working with the elderly in an aged care facility. Carla is Michelina’s daughter.
